A quiet Iowa Falls neighborhood is reeling after a deadly shooting early Sunday morning that left three people dead and another hospitalized.
The incident was reported around 3:58 a.m. on Nov. 9 at a home on Willow Lane. When officers from the Iowa Falls Police Department and Hardin County Sheriff’s Office arrived, they discovered three adults who had died from gunshot wounds.
The victims have been identified as 42-year-old Jessica Marie Bennett of Iowa Falls and 51-year-old Alan Jandro Karalius of Garner, along with 45-year-old Shawn Michael Bean of Iowa Falls.
Karalius was well known in the eastern Iowa music scene as the lead singer of the band Sorry for Lastnight, a group that performed frequently in the Waterloo area. Friends and fans have begun sharing memories online, remembering him for his voice, stage presence, and the energy he brought to local venues.
Investigators say Bean shot Bennett, Karalius, and a fourth person before taking his own life. The surviving victim, whose identity has not been released, was rushed to Hansen Family Hospital and is expected to recover.
All three deceased individuals were transported to the Office of the Iowa State Medical Examiner in Ankeny.
The impact of the tragedy has stretched beyond the immediate neighborhood. The Iowa Falls-Alden School District brought in counselors Monday morning to support students and staff processing the news.
The Iowa Falls Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Hardin County E-Squad, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Iowa State Patrol.
