Authorities say a late-night home intrusion in Oskaloosa led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man accused of entering a residence without permission and assaulting the occupants.
On November 21, at approximately 3:29 a.m., Rassir Vann Higginbotham of Oskaloosa was accused of unlawfully entering a residence on the 1200 block of Santa Clara.
According to court documents, Higginbotham entered the home without permission and proceeded to the daughter’s bedroom. When asked to leave, he did so briefly but then entered the victim’s bedroom, where he reportedly woke her and engaged in unwanted physical contact, including forceful kissing and touching. The victim repeatedly told him to stop, but the contact continued.
The daughter was ultimately able to convince Higginbotham to leave, reportedly noting that he appeared intoxicated. Law enforcement later located Higginbotham passed out in the driver’s seat of his running vehicle.
Higginbotham was read his rights and admitted to entering the residence. Police noted signs of impairment, and a breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .144. He was arrested by the Oskaloosa Police Department and taken to the Mahaska County Jail, where he remains in custody.
A no-contact order has been issued between Higginbotham and the victims.
Higginbotham is facing the following charges:
- Operating While Intoxicated (first offense) – Serious Misdemeanor
- Burglary in the Second Degree – Class C Felony
- Sexual Assault (no injury) – Aggravated Misdemeanor
