Karen Diane Martin Arter, a remarkable woman of strength, grace, and boundless love, took her leave of this world on November 7, 2025.
Karen, born in Centerville, IA on October 9, 1951, spent her 74 years living a life that was richly woven with love, family ties, and countless moments of joy and laughter. Karen was a woman of immense character and resilience. Her life was a testament to the words of Maya Angelou, “I can be changed by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it.” Living in Plano, Iowa, she embraced the beauty of the world around her and made it her mission to spread joy wherever she went.
Karen was a devoted mother who found her greatest joy in raising her children: Justin, Jason, and Jaime Arter. She also shared a special bond with her siblings, Kenny Martin, Kathy Shinn, and her sister-in-law, Rita Martin, and brother-in-law, Wayne Shinn. Her love for them was pure and unconditional, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and strength that will continue to inspire them. Karen was predeceased by her beloved parents, Bruce and Florence Martin. Their love and values were instilled deeply within Karen, shaping her into the remarkable woman she was. Her life was a beautiful journey that touched the lives of those around her. She was a beacon of light in every storm, a safe harbor for those in need, and her memory will forever be a comforting presence in the hearts of her family and friends. In the words of Helen Keller, “What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” Karen’s love, her spirit, and her memories have become a part of all who knew her, and they will forever carry her warmth in their hearts.
A celebration of life will be held at 12 pm, Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Brushy Community Center, 12790 Hwy S70, Plano, Iowa 52581. Memorials may be directed to the family.
