The Indian Hills Men’s Soccer team made history in Florida on Saturday by beating Daytona State 1-0 to win its first-ever national championship.
Enzo de Almeida, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, scored early in the second half and the Indian Hills defense was able to hold the Falcons to just one shot on goal.
After making the NJCAA Division I National Tournament as the eighth seed, the Warriors defeated Montgomery 5-1 in their opening game then lost 1-0 to Tyler but still advanced to the semifinals thanks to a +3 goal differential.
The maroon and gold edged Cowley 2-1 in the semifinals thanks to a pair of goals from Almeida.
Indian Hills also made its mark by becoming the lowest seeded team in NJCAA history to win the national title.
Along with Almeida, goalkeeper Matteo Maleguti and defenseman Vittero Bellesi were the other Warriors named to the all-tournament team.
