The holiday season officially gets underway in Pella tonight as the Pella Area Community and Economic Alliance hosts its annual kickoff event downtown. Many local shops will stay open late, giving residents a chance to browse and buy from 5 to 8 p.m. At the same time, Marion County Bank will once again offer discounted Pella Bucks, a popular deal that usually draws a crowd.
Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with the traditional tree lighting ceremony at the Tulip Toren. Mayor Don DeWaard will read a holiday proclamation, and students from both Pella and Pella Christian schools will fill the square with Christmas carols.
Once the tree is lit, families can head over to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus starting at 6 p.m. Free horse-drawn carriage rides will also be running beginning at 5 p.m., adding to the festive feel throughout downtown.
The KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio will be at the kickoff to the holidays in Pella.
