On November 3, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a domestic dispute in the 100 block of NE 3rd Street, Melcher-Dallas. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim, who provided details about the incident involving Mark Gray, 34, of Melcher-Dallas.

According to police affidavits, Gray had driven to Ankeny to pick up the victim and returned to his residence on NE 4th Street. Reports indicate that after their arrival, Gray allegedly consumed more than a bottle of Crown Royal whiskey and assaulted the victim over a span of approximately 30 minutes. The victim managed to escape from the residence and sought help.

Court records detail that the victim identified Gray as her assailant. When officers responded to Gray’s residence, they attempted to make contact but observed him lying on a bed through a window. Despite their efforts, Gray did not respond to authorities knocking on the door.

The victim sustained injuries during the incident, including a severely swollen lower lip and redness on her cheeks and around her eyes. She reported that she and Gray had been in a relationship for about three months prior to the incident.

A warrant for Gray’s arrest was issued, and he was taken into custody on November 4. He is currently being held at the Marion County Jail with a bond set at $1,000 cash/surety. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 11, and a no-contact order has been placed to protect the victim.
