A farmer in western Iowa says widespread rains have slowed his harvest progress.
Kevin Ross of Minden says his farm has received more than an inch of rain since Sunday night.
“A decent shot here that will probably keep us out for at least Tuesday,” he said. “Who knows how quickly it dries out and if we can get back in Wednesday afternoon. We may be able to switch back over to corn and take some more of that out before the beans dry out a little bit more.”
He tells Brownfield the quality of this year’s crop has been a mixed bag.
“Bean yields are pretty good,” Ross said. “They are running mid-60s and I think we’ll run into some stuff that’s better than that. The corn we’ve done so far is not real great. It had some green snap in it.”
Ross says he’s hopeful the rest of his corn acres will produce better yields than he’s seen so far.
