Sebastian “Ty” Husted disappeared on January 22, 2018, from Centerville, Iowa. At the time of his disappearance, he was 18 years old and worked as a power washer at a hog confinement facility near South Lineville, Missouri, which is located about 60 miles from Centerville. Husted was reported missing the same day when he did not return home with a co-worker after their shift. Evidence indicates that he received a ride to work from this co-worker, as he did not have his own transportation. On the day he vanished, Husted messaged his brother, expressing concern about his co-worker, who was acting strangely. He requested to be picked up, stating, “Please, man, just come get me. Please.” However, he did not respond when his brother asked for a location.

Investigators followed up on approximately 50 leads and even drained the hog pit multiple times during the search. Husted’s cellphone last pinged in Lineville, Iowa, about 40 miles away from where he was supposed to be, and there was no activity on his bank accounts after he went missing.

After more than six years of uncertainty, human remains were discovered on April 23, 2024, by a turkey hunter on private property in northeast Mercer County, Missouri. Two days later, on April 25, the remains were identified as those of Sebastian “Ty” Husted. The Mercer County Sheriff reported that the skeletal remains were found approximately one mile from the hog barns. However, the medical examiner stated there was insufficient evidence to determine the cause or manner of Husted’s death. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information about Ty Husted’s case to contact the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office at 660-748-3165 or the Centerville Police Department at 641-437-7100.
