Steven Lee Murphy, 81, of Ottumwa died at 11:10 a.m. October 20, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born February 26, 1944 in Ottumwa to Joseph and Berdena Rockett Murphy. Steve married Sandra Reck May 24, 1975.
Steve served in the U.S. Army and then worked 30 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works.
He was a member of Church of the Justified, O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Wapello Chief’s Bow Club. He enjoyed archery, fishing, boating and camping. Steve loved the outdoors.
Surviving is his wife, Sandra; 4 children, Matthew (Sandra) Murphy of Ottumwa, Autumn Murphy of Albia, Sean Murphy of Ottumwa and Phillip (Katie) Murphy of Muscatine; many grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and a sister, Linda Murphy of Eldon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brian Reck; 4 brothers, James Edward Murphy, Joseph Murphy, Richard Murphy and Bill Murphy.
His body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.
