Pleasant U & I Sodbusters Serve Up More Than Just Lemonade: Giving Back in Sweet, Meaningful Ways
Wapello County, IA — Every summer during Expo Week, the Pleasant U & I Sodbusters roll up their sleeves and serve ice-cold frozen lemonade at their beloved stand — not just to quench thirst, but to warm hearts. For years, the Sodbusters have used proceeds from their stand to purchase Christmas gifts for foster children in Wapello County, ensuring local youth feel the joy and love of the holiday season.
But this year, their tradition of generosity grew even stronger.
On September 4th, the group was invited to open their stand during the “Be the Light – Suicide Prevention Glow Walk,” an annual community event that raises awareness and support for mental health and suicide prevention in Wapello County. Without hesitation, the Sodbusters said yes.
“We were honored to be a part of something so important,” said a spokesperson for the Pleasant U & I Sodbusters. “We know how vital mental health resources are, especially in our rural communities, and we believe in lifting up other organizations doing good work right here at home.”
Not only did the Sodbusters open their lemonade stand for the event, but they went a step further — donating 100% of the proceeds from the evening directly to the Be the Light Foundation.
The gesture was a refreshing reminder of how small acts — like selling lemonade — can make a powerful impact when driven by purpose and community spirit.
As the glow of the walk lit up the September evening, so too did the hearts of those who participated, supported, and gave back.
Whether it’s helping foster children feel remembered at Christmas or supporting suicide prevention efforts, the Pleasant U & I Sodbusters are proof that when a community comes together, everyone wins.
