Pella Regional Health Center announced that Fitim Hoti, RN, BSN, is the recipient of a DAISY award. The DAISY program is a national award, given at the local level, to registered nurses who exemplify extraordinary nursing. The focus is on the special touches and human consideration these nurses give to their patients.
Excerpt from Fitim’s nomination by Tammy Kendall:
“When Jake was admitted to the hospital for his final stay, he made it clear that he did not want any life-saving interventions. Surrounded by his loving family, he was ready to say goodbye. During this incredibly emotional time, Fitim gave Jake something truly special—his last weekend, exactly the way he would have wanted it.
Jake was a jokester, always up for a lighthearted argument or a good laugh. Fitim recognized that spirit and brought it to life during every interaction. He joked with Jake, creating moments of joy and normalcy amidst the gravity of the situation.
Throughout Jake’s stay, there was a steady flow of family members coming and going. Fitim greeted each of us with warmth, a smile, and genuine compassion. He went above and beyond—not only ensuring Jake’s comfort but also making sure that our family felt supported and cared for every step of the way.
Fitim’s kindness, attentiveness, and heartfelt presence made an unforgettable difference during one of the most difficult times in our lives. He was truly amazing.”
Hoti received a certificate that reads: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.” He was also given a sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.
