A 42-year-old Brighton man is facing multiple felony charges following a domestic violence incident that occurred on Sunday, September 21st, in northeast Jefferson County.

Michael Sines was arrested by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office after an investigation into an assault that took place at a residence earlier that day. According to court documents, the incident involved a weapon being discharged within the home and resulted in injuries to the victim.

According to an affidavit filed in the case, deputies were notified at 2:02 PM that a female victim had reported being assaulted earlier that morning. The victim, who had already sought medical treatment at a hospital, met with investigators at the Jefferson County Law Center to provide her account of the events.

The victim told authorities that what began as an argument with her husband escalated into a physical altercation that lasted approximately two hours. During this time, she alleged that Sines:

  • Punched her multiple times in the head
  • Kicked her in the ribs
  • Prevented her from leaving the residence despite her repeated requests to do so
  • Threatened her with a 20-gauge shotgun by pressing the muzzle against her chest and head
  • Fired a shot into the bedroom ceiling during the altercation

The incident occurred while the couple’s 13-year-old daughter was present in the home. According to the affidavit, the child heard the altercation and at one point entered the room in an attempt to get Sines to stop.

Investigating officers documented visible injuries on the victim, including bruising and redness on her face, hands, arms, and chest. A circular red mark on the victim’s chest appeared consistent with the barrel of a shotgun being pressed against it, according to the affidavit.

The victim also reported suffering partial hearing loss on her right side as a result of the punches to her head. She provided written statements to investigators and presented hospital documentation regarding her injuries.

As a result of the investigation, arrest warrants were issued for Sines on the following charges:

Felony Charges:

  • Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon (Class C Felony)
  • Willful Injury – Causing Serious Injury (Class C Felony)
  • Assault While Participating in Felony – Serious Injury (Class C Felony)
  • Going Armed with Intent (Class D Felony)

Misdemeanor Charges:

  • Domestic Abuse Assault Display or Use of Weapon – 1st Offense (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
  • Child Endangerment (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
  • Harassment 1st Degree (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
  • False Imprisonment (Serious Misdemeanor)

Sines was arrested and initially held on a $50,000 bond, which has since been posted.
