A man was arrested and charged with domestic abuse after an altercation with a woman, during which he allegedly assaulted her and later denied any wrongdoing.
On October 22, The Keokuk Sheriff Department was sent to the 900 block of West Street in Hedrick for a Domestic Abuse Assault.
Upon arrival the Keokuk’s Sheriff Department learned Tyler Ellis,19, of Hedrick was reportedly in a verbal altercation with the victim.
According to court records the victim stated Ellis grabbed her by the shoulders and threw her to the floor. Ellis reportedly called 911 and exited the residence before authorities arrived.
Law enforcement witnessed scratches on the victim’s left arm. The victim reported to the officers she allegedly hit her head on the floor.
Court submissions state while law enforcement was questioning the victim, Ellis called the victim on her cell phone. Officers allegedly overheard the phone conversation, and Ellis stated he only hit the victim once because the victim threatened him with a pair of scissors. Ellis allegedly told the victim to die and ended the call.
Court documents state the victim denied threatening Ellis with the scissors.
The Keokuk Sheriff Department located Ellis across town. Law enforcement stated they questioned Ellis. Ellis stated to law enforcement the victim threatened him with scissors, so he had to take her down. Ellis allegedly denied laying hands on the victim.
Authorities stated there were no visible bodily injuries on Ellis.
Officers apprehended Ellis and transferred him to the Keokuk County Jail, where he was later released.
Ellis was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault – injury or Mental Illness – 1st offense (Serious Misdemeanor).
Court records state there is a $500.00 cash/surety and a no contact order in place. A preliminary hearing is set for October 31.
