A southeast Iowa farmer says a wetter-than-expected summer impacted the quality of his corn crop.
“In July we had, depending on who you talk to, between 12-16 inches (of rain) in this area,” said Tom Adam of Harper.
Adam says disease pressure has been strong.
“The crops have done pretty well with (the rain), but the disease is the biggest issue we’re seeing,” he said. “The southern rust is coming in and with the wet conditions it’s just manifested itself greatly.”
He tells Brownfield he’s expecting a yield reduction.
“I look for it to take off maybe 10% of the yield in the area,” Adam said. “That would be just a guess.”
Adam raises corn, soybeans, wheat, oats, hay and produces beef cattle on his Keokuk County farm.
