A Sunday night domestic abuse call ended with the arrest of a Mahaska County man after authorities say he assaulted multiple victims inside a home.
Deputies with the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched on August 24th, where they say 40-year-old Travis Brown became violent during an argument. According to court documents, Brown shoved a female victim out the door while yelling at her. The woman told deputies she feared for her life and suffered a panic attack during the altercation.
The report states that Brown then turned his attention to a juvenile male inside the home. He allegedly slapped the boy’s hat off, punched him repeatedly in the head, and grabbed him by the shirt collar to the point the child said he couldn’t breathe. The victim managed to break free but was thrown to the ground.
When the juvenile’s brother tried to step in, Brown allegedly struck him as well. Their mother, who is in a relationship with Brown, intervened to protect her son and prevent further assault. The juvenile later sought medical attention for concussion-like symptoms.
Brown was taken into custody and transported to the Mahaska County Jail. He faces charges of Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Flow of Air/Blood (Aggravated Misdemeanor), Assault with Intent to Cause Pain/Injury (Simple Misdemeanor), and Assault-General (Simple Misdemeanor). His bond was set at $2,000 cash or surety.
