The Fairfield girls tennis team received excellent news with the release of the individual regional tennis assignments today, as they will host Region 6 competition for Class 1A singles and doubles next Wednesday, September 17th.

Region 6 will feature 8 teams competing at Fairfield for the chance to advance to the state tournament. The participating schools include:

Albia, Burlington Notre Dame, Centerville, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Knoxville, and Mount Pleasant will all send their top singles and doubles competitors to battle for state tournament berths.

The stakes are high, as only the top 2 finishers will qualify for the state tournament. This means every match will be crucial for players hoping to extend their seasons.

Having the regional tournament at home provides a significant advantage for the Trojans. Coach Dunkin appreciates the benefits of hosting, noting “Yeah it’s really nice. The girls get to play at the courts they’re familiar with. It’s easier for families to come cheer. And they get to sleep in and not have to worry about an hour plus car ride to go somewhere.”

With their dominant regular season performance that included a 76-5 match record and perfect 9-0 team record, several Fairfield players appear well-positioned to make strong runs at regional competition. The team’s depth and talent that led to their conference championship success should translate well to individual tournament play.
