On August 15, 2025, at approximately 8:15 p.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident on 170th Avenue.
According to witnesses, the vehicle swerved to avoid a deer, left the roadway, and rolled multiple times before coming to rest. The driver, identified as Thomas Spears, was unable to regain control and died as a result of the crash.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to Spears’ family and friends during this difficult time.
Authorities also thanked Lee County EMS, the Montrose Fire Department, and LeeComm for their swift response and assistance.
The accident remains under investigation.
