Robert Boyd, 96, of Ottumwa, died at 3:30 a.m. August 1, 2025 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
He was born June 17, 1929 in Ottumwa to Robert E. and Frances Phillips Boyd. Bob married Joann Elizabeth Bales on January 15, 1949 and she preceded him in death on May 29, 2020.
Bob was a 1947 graduate of Ottumwa High School. He was a train engineer for Milwaukee Railroad freight trains and for Burlington Northern passenger trains for 42 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Bob coached Wiz Kids baseball for 5 years and he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Surviving are his children, Sharon VanEngelenhoven of Ottumwa, Jim (Trudy) Boyd of Ankeny and Nancy (Denny) Hinson of Clinton; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister Teresa Wendelschaefer of Florida; and son-in-law, Steve Zimmerman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter; Jeanine Zimmerman and brothers, Bill, Jack and Tom Boyd.
Visitation will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, August 4th, at Reece Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 5th, at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Griffith officiating. The family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Ottumwa Little League.
