The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is giving truck drivers a little extra leeway to help with ongoing flood recovery across the state.
MoDOT has extended a special weight allowance through August 31, 2025, for trucks hauling rock, sand, and gravel used in flood relief, levee repair, and infrastructure restoration efforts. The temporary waiver allows trucks to carry up to 10% more than their licensed weight limits on non-interstate highways in Missouri.
This move is designed to speed up delivery of critical materials to areas hit hard by flooding. However, there are a few important rules to follow:
- The waiver is only for hauls of rock, sand, or gravel within Missouri.
- No interstate travel is allowed under the waiver.
- Bridge weight limits must still be followed.
- When crossing bridges, trucks must slow down to 30 mph or less.
MoDOT encourages all drivers to use caution and check current road conditions before heading out. Up-to-date closure and detour info can be found on the Traveler Information Map at traveler.modot.org.
This temporary measure is one more way the state is working to help communities bounce back after recent flooding.
