Charles Kenneth Whitacre, 74, of Glenwood, passed away at his home on Friday, June 20, 2025.
Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025 1-3 p.m. at the Mills Masquers Performing Arts Theater in Glenwood. Continuation of the gathering will be at the Keg Creek Brewery in Glenwood from 3-5 p.m. Family will direct memorials. Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood is caring for Ken and his family.
Ken was born on October 29, 1950 in Bloomfield, the son of Charles Omer and Mary Maurine (Spillman) Whitacre. He graduated from Davis County Community High School in 1969. He furthered his education in the field of law, at both Iowa State University in Ames and the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Ken served his community and surrounding area as Mills County Attorney, Magistrate Judge, and as a private practice attorney at Swenson & Whitacre Law Office in Glenwood, until his retirement in 2021.
Ken and Lois Faye Lonnevik were united in marriage on June 10, 1989.
Ken served on the Mills Masquers board and was a member of the Kiwanis in Glenwood. He loved performing music, acting in the theater, and playing the guitar, along with being an auto enthusiast. He was a wonderful husband, father, and a good friend to all who knew him.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister Kay Brunk.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Lois Whitacre of Glenwood; sons, Charles Derek Whitacre (Mariella Piluso) of Los Angeles, Calif., and Dain Whitacre (Taylor) of Bennington, Neb.; other relatives and many special friends.
