A farmer in southeast Nebraska says restrictions on some crop protection tools are making it more difficult to manage weed pressure.
“Weed prevention is a big problem.”
Clint Damme of Talmage says it’s been a struggle to find pesticides that help control problematic weeds. “Some of the regulations you can’t spray Dicamba over-the-top on the soybean side so I think that’s created a greater challenge for what we should have.”
He tells Brownfield this growing season has been especially difficult due to warmer temperatures and moisture. “It’s your waterhemp and marestail – those weeds are still a challenge to come up with chemicals that work. I think they might be out there.”
Damme says he’s concerned that there could be some top-end yield loss this year.
