A 17-year-old girl is back in custody after briefly escaping while being transported on Thursday.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the teen kicked out the back window of a transport vehicle and fled on foot. The incident did not involve a sheriff’s office vehicle, but deputies responded immediately.
With help from local law enforcement agencies, the girl was quickly located and returned to custody. Authorities confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Officials say they are now reviewing the incident and working to ensure that proper safety measures are in place for future transports.
