An Ottumwa man was arrested in connection to an alleged sexual assault that took place last year.
22-year-old Justin Cheeks has been charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony.
On February 19, 2024, court records say Cheeks engaged in sexual acts with a female victim. According to police, the victim was incapacitated from the effects of alcohol and unable to provide consent. Authorities say the incident occurred at a residence in Ottumwa.
A warrant for Cheeks’ arrest was issued on April 14th and he was taken into custody on April 29th.
Cheeks is currently in the Wapello County Jail where he is being held on a $10,000.
Cheeks has been ordered not to have any contact with the victim.
