Mayor Rick Johnson proclaimed April 25, 2025 as Arbor Day in Ottumwa, Iowa. Mayor Johnson urges the citizens of Ottumwa, Iowa, to become aware of the importance of trees in our community’s well being and to participate in tree planting programs.
Council also directed staff to prepare an agenda item formalizing the Council’s desire to delay the imposition of the sewer base charge on each unit within a multi-family dwelling and each mobile home lot of a mobile home park until January 1, 2026.
The City of Ottumwa is required to hold a public hearing on the proposed budget for the coming fiscal year.The proposed date for this hearing is Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 5:30pm at the Bridgeview Center.
Also on the Agenda the City of Ottumwa entered into contract with Bi- State Construction of West Burlington, Iowa to build 3 soccer fields in Central Addition Park. This contract was made December 19, 2023. The total cost of the project is $2,956,849.04.The total project cost will be funded by the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation.
Bids will be opened by the City of Ottumwa on April 22nd, 2025 at 2:00pm at City Hall on the proposed plans, specifications, form of contract and estimated cost for Apron improvement project at the Ottumwa Regional Airport.The estimated cost for this project is $1,000,000.00. The city will be using FAA Grant Funding for this project.The bid report and bid reward recommendation will be presented to City Council at a later date.
On the Consent agenda beer/liquor applications was approved for Pizza Hut, Las Palmas Bar & Grill, and Joe’s Italian Pizza.
Council also discussed a increase fee for Bridge City Sanitation. A increase Fee of $1.50 / unit / month with a new rate of $24.50 / month on July 1st, 2025 and $26.00 / month on July 1, 2026.
