Nearly two months after 28-year-old Brianne McIntosh went missing, her body was discovered in a secluded area of Fremont County, sending shockwaves through her family and the Council Bluffs community. The suspect, 32-year-old Justin Sickler, initially faced charges of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, and theft. However, the case has taken a controversial turn following news that Sickler is negotiating a plea deal.

The proposed agreement could significantly reduce Sickler’s sentence, allowing him to become eligible for parole in as little as 12 years. This development has sparked outrage and heartbreak among McIntosh’s loved ones, who had hoped for a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

“The best I could hope for was life in prison without parole,” said her father, Tommy Thompson. “And now that’s even being taken away.”

McIntosh leaves behind seven children, who must now grow up without their mother. Her family describes her as a devoted parent and a vibrant soul whose life was cut tragically short.

As the legal proceedings continue, the family is urging the public to remember Brianne not just as a victim, but as a mother, daughter, and friend who deserved justice. They are also calling for transparency and accountability in the plea deal process.

A court hearing on the plea agreement is expected in the coming weeks.
