Nine years ago today marks the saddest day in Law Enforcement. Two of our Officers gained their wings in the line of duty.
Officer Susan Farrell, took a position with the Polk County Jail as a detention officer and had been promoted to Deputy in April 2015, She was also a member of the Response Team where she was awarded the Commendation and Life Savings Awards.
Susan also graduated the 73rd recruit class and took a position with the Des Moines Police Department.
Officer Carlos Puente-Morales, earned his associates degree in law enforcement from Ellsworth Community College. His career began in Eldora, Iowa the jail and continued in Dowes and Ottumwa as a Police Officer before moving to Des Moines. He worked as a Des Moines Police Officer for the 3rd Watch Patrol.
He also served in the Iowa Army National Guard as a SSG and served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Carlos earned a Combat Infantry Badge and a Army Achievement Medal.
Both Officers lost their lives when they was transporting a prisoner from Council Bluffs to Des Moines when their patrol car was struck head- on by a wrong way drunk driver on I-80, at mile marker 117.
Sadly missed by Family, Friends, and Law Enforcement.
