Mushroom season usually starts in early spring to mid – April and continues through mid – March.
The best places people report to find the treasure is by looking around dead dying trees.(Elm, sycamore)
Other places are prairies, any dead decaying leaf piles, or in river bottoms.
A true Morel is usually tan in color, hollow, and has pits. Do not eat Morel’s that have a red cap they are toxic.
You must have permission to harvest mushrooms on private property. You can harvest mushrooms on most land owned by Conservation.
To sell mushrooms, State law requires you to be certified in the identification of Morel mushrooms.
