Police: Ottumwa Man Fired Guns Inside His Home

An Ottumwa man was arrested for allegedly firing guns inside his home last week.

55-year-old Martin Mitchell was charged with reckless use of a firearm – property damage, an aggravated misdemeanor.

On January 29 at approximately 7:30 AM, court records say Mitchell knowingly and intentionally discharged two separate guns inside his residence on Camille Street in Ottumwa. The damage to Mitchell’s home was “extensive” according to court documents. No one was injured and no neighboring homes sustained any damage.

A warrant for Mitchell’s arrest was issued on January 31 and he was taken into custody on the same day.

Mitchell was transported to the Wapello County Jail. He is currently free after posting a $2,000 bond.
