The optimal window to market old crop grain is getting smaller.
Iowa Farm Bureau Farmer Education Program Manager Zach Brummer says a lot of farmers stored more corn and soybeans than intended last harvest.
“So if there’s one thought I’d leave you with is that once you get past June 15th, the market, the risk premium that’s been built into the market up to that point has really been spent, so to speak.”
Speaking to Brownfield during the Iowa Farm Bureau Ag Market Outlook Meeting in Forest City Thursday, he suggested at that point the market assumes it knows what the U.S. crop looks like.
“As well as expectations for production, so really I think if you haven’t been very aggressive yet on especially old crop sales, as we get into April, May, and the first half of June, I’d be pretty aggressive.”
