With heavy hearts yet a spirit uplifted by cherished memories, we announce the passing of Joel Andrew Knapp on February 17, 2025 at the Monroe County Hospital Emergency Room.
He was born in Ottumwa, IA on April 12, 2009 to Nikki Knapp-Hutt.
Joel’s infectious laughter and vibrant personality filled every room he entered, leaving an indelible mark on each heart he touched. Although our time with him was far too brief, he lived each day to its fullest. His zest for life and the joy he radiated will forever be remembered. Joel’s imagination knew no bounds, often finding an outlet in his love for Legos, dinosaurs, and video games. His Star Wars game was a particular favorite, as were the YouTube videos of others showcasing their gaming skills. Joel was a devoted team player, often engaging in video game and nurf battles with his cousin, Wyatt, and playing the farming game with his dad. His love for his dogs, Max and Shay, was profound. He was an avid fan of McDonald’s and Casey’s Pizza. Joel’s love for the online platform, Temu, was known to all, where he enthusiastically shared his wishlist. Yet, above all, his love for his family shone the brightest. His devotion to them was unwavering, and they were his greatest source of joy. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to have known him. His radiant smile, his hearty laugh, and his loving heart will forever be missed, yet never forgotten.
Survivors include, parents, Nikki and Waylon Hutt; siblings, Samual, Austin and step sister Melanie; grandparents, Jerry and Karen Knapp; special caregiver, Becca Yoder, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by great grandparents, Ada Mae and Phillip Barnes, B. and Joe Knapp; uncle, J.J. Knapp; grandmother, Crystal Stansberry; great uncle, Marvin Barnes; uncle Jack Stoddard Sr. and many other relatives.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 9-11 a.m., followed by a short prayer service at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia, with interment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia. Memorials may be directed to Joel’s family. Services entrusted with Sinnott Funeral Home of Ottumwa & Albia, serving all of southern Iowa.
