A wrong-way crash claimed the life of a motorist in Appanoose County on Saturday night.
Chief Tom Demry of the Centerville Police Department says his office received a report of a motorist driving on the wrong side of the road at approximately 6:04 PM and then an additional 911 call reporting a two-vehicle accident.
Preliminary reports say a 2019 Ford F-150 was driving eastbound in the westbound lane of Highway 2 and crashed head-on into a 2024 Kia Telluride.
The driver of the Ford, 63-year-old Jeffrey Underwood of Centerville was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the Kia, Robert and Esther Bedford of Sun City West, Arizona, were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Demry says the highway was shut down for three hours after the accident and traffic was rerouted so investigators could gather information. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
