Authorities say an Ottumwa man headbutted a police cruiser during a drug arrest on Tuesday.

44-year-old Jeremy Jones was charged with second-degree criminal mischeif (Class D felony), two counts of possession of a controlled substance – third or subsequent offense (Class D felony), possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine (Class B felony), and failure to affix a drug tax stamp (Class D felony).

According to court records, Jones was riding in the passenger seat of a vehicle that was pulled over by Ottumwa police. A K-9 unit indicated there was contraband in the vehicle. Police say after a search, loose marijuana was found under Jones’s seat and there was a backpack at his feet. The backpack allegedly contained 17.5 grams of marijuana, 16.9 grams of methamphetamine, 1.6 grams of heroin, and packing items.

Officers placed Jones under arrest. While he was being taken into custody, Jones allegedly pulled away from the arresting officers and struck a fully marked police vehicle with his head. Court documents say Jones’ actions produced a large dent on the vehicle’s side panel.

Jones was transported to the Wapello County Jail. His bond has been set at $25,000.
