Jim Leach, a Davenport native who represented Iowa in congress for 30 years,has died at the age of 82.
He was born and raised in Davenport and served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1977-2007.He famously broke from his Republican party in 2008.When he endorsed Barak Obama.He later changed his affiliation to Demographic party in 2022.And began backing many of Iowa”s Demographic candidates over their GOP counterparts.
A three sport athlete in college, won a state wrestling title in 1960as a high school senior and was elected to the National Wrestling Hall Of Fame. After graduating from Princeton, earning a Masters from John Hopkins University and studying at the London School Of Economics.
