Adverse weather conditions have led the City of Ottumwa to close its landfill on Tuesday, October 29.
According to a news release, the Ottumwa/Wapello County Landfill closed at 1:30 PM due to high winds. The National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory. The area has seen wind gusts up to 40 mph.
The city says high winds can create conditions that are dangerous to customers and staff. Additionally, the conditions prevent the Landfill from carrying out its responsibility to prevent the scattering of trash and debris beyond the fence line.
The city says the landfill will reopen at 7:00 AM on Wednesday, October 30.
