Marilyn D. Sipe, 92, of Ottumwa died at 10:20 p.m. October 18, 2024 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. She was born April 2, 1932 in Fairfield to Mandus and Matilda DeVetter VanDerSnick. She married J. Dale Sipe on October 10, 1953 at St. Mary’s Church in Fairfield.
A 1950 graduate of Fairfield High School, Marilyn had worked at Burlington Ordnace Plant and then in the Ottumwa School Lunch Program where she retired in 1954.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church. She was a founding member of Hospice Auxillary, St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary, Ministry Care and the Ottumwa Women’s Club.
Marilyn loved bowling, golfing, traveling, counted cross stitching, wintering in Palm Springs, CA for 32 years and spending time with her family.
Surviving is her husband, J. Dale Sipe of Ottumwa; two sons, David Sipe of Ottumwa and Doug (Michelle) Sipe of Henderson, NV; her grandchildren, Ashley (Brian) Sylvester of Erie, CO and Brandon (Lisa) Sipe of Broomfield, CO; four great grandchildren, Logan and Lainey Sylvester and Adeline and Emilia Sipe; a nephew, Ron Shy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Walter and Mike VanDerSnick; and one sister, Catherine Shy.
Her body has been cremated.
Memorial mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October, 24th at St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The family will be present to greet friends from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home.
