An Ottumwa man with a warrant for his arrest fled from officers on a bicycle and was in possession of drugs.
45-year-old Joel Luke was charged with unlawful possession of a prescription drug, tax stamp violation – ten dosage units, interference with official acts, possession of drug paraphernalia.
On August 18 at 3:45 p.m, court records say Luke was riding a bike on 228 East Main Street. According to law enforcement, Luke had an active arrest warrant and was ordered to stop. Luke refused to comply with the law and fled from the officers on his bike.
According to court records, Luke was later arrested and authorities conducted a search. Luke was in possession of a glass smoking pipe with burnt marijuana residue and an unmarked pill bottle containing gabapentin.
Luke was taken to the Wapello County Jail. He pleaded not guilty and has a preliminary hearing on September 3.
