Jonathan Patrick Barnes, 43, of Ottumwa, died at 2:02 a.m. August 8, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born December 28, 1980 in Fairfield. He married Yolanda Lynn Price September 8, 2001.
Growing up in Kirksville, MO, Jon moved to Ottumwa in 1989. He played football, participated in wrestling and track and was Male Athlete of the Year at Ottumwa High School, graduating in 1999. Jon worked for Hy-Vee since the age of 16 and was produce manager at South and North Hy-Vee and worked for Fairfield Hy-Vee for the last few years.
Jon enjoyed playing “Magic of the Gathering” and hosting a bi-weekly card night at his home. The most important aspect of his life was his family, especially spending time with his two daughters.
Surviving is his wife, Yolanda; their two daughters, Madison Barnes and Makayla Barnes; his mother, Deborah Lynn Barnes of Eldon; a sister, Amber Barnes of Texas; and 2 brothers, Nicholas Conrad and Bradley Conrad, both of Eldon.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Barnes.
Visitation will be open at 1 p.m. Monday, August 12th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 13th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Hendred officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
