David Baltimore, 77, of Montezuma, passed away Saturday, August 28, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

David Wayne, son of William Francis and Inez Lorena (Allgood) Baltimore, was born in Oskaloosa on December 25, 1946. David grew up in Eddyville and Oskaloosa and was part of the 1965 graduating class of Oskaloosa High School. David worked for Carter Steel after graduating high school. Later, he worked in maintenance at Donaldson Manufacturing and Cargill for most of his career.

David became a father when his son Shad was born, which was his favorite title. David met Bonnie Jean around 1974, and the two were wed on November 1, 1978. They were always there for one another, and David was the first call to help in any way needed.
When David was young, he enjoyed many days and nights at the Eddyville Dragway with his friends; this is when David’s lifelong passion for racing began. David’s skills at building cars and incredible engines were well known. His driving ability was second only to his mechanical skills; car owners would even have David race their cars for the win. Living on the eastern edge of Montezuma, David would often test the drag cars on the highway. The roaring engines could be heard all throughout Montezuma, earning that strip of highway the nickname “Baltimore Flats.” His love for drag races and car shows continued throughout his life, and he was frequently in attendance at local races and shows.

Left to remember David is his son, Shad Baltimore of Booneville, and his wife, Bonnie of Grinnell. David was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” and Inez Baltimore, as well as his grandparents, William “Willie” and Nada Baltimore.
Graveside services for David will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Forest Cemetery with Reverend Rick Talbert officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., prior to the service, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory.
