The final day of a heat wave will feature storms with high winds, according to the National Weather Service.
Monday’s high is expected to reach 97 degrees with heat index values over 100 degrees for Ottumwa and the surrounding area. That heat will come to a halt later in the day when a storm system is anticipated to sweep through Iowa.
Starting around 3:00 PM, the National Weather Service says damaging winds will emerge in central to eastern Iowa, with gusts anticipated to reach 75 mph. A small chance (less than 10 percent) of tornadoes and large hail will also accompany Monday’s storm.
The National Weather Service shows Tuesday’s high to be in the mid-80s and the highs for the rest of the week to hover in the low-80s.
