Police say an Ottumwa man attempted to escape arrest by hiding in a church parking lot.
35-year-old Joshua Taylor was charged for Driving While Barred, Interference with Official Acts, and 3rd offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
On June 21, the Ottumwa Police Department said Taylor was driving with a destroyed windshield and fraudulent registration. An officer in a patrol car saw Taylor drive his vehicle into a church parking lot on South Ward Street and saw him hide behind his vehicle.
Court records say police told Taylor he was under arrest and he ran from the officer and hid behind a garage of a nearby residence. Taylor allegedly resisted arrest by refusing to put his hands behind his back.
According to court records, Taylor has been barred from driving since November 2021.
Taylor was transported to the Wapello County Jail. Officials searched Taylor and found a plastic bag containing methamphetamine.
Taylor is located at the Wapello County Jail. His preliminary hearing was waived.
