Man Goes Missing While Swimming in Des Moines River


An Ottumwa man was reported missing after swimming in the Des Moines river.

In the afternoon of June 2, an unidentified Ottumwa man was seen swimming in the Des Moines river with a group of individuals by the Highway 34 overpass. The Ottumwa Police Department say the man was reported missing when he returned a second time to the river alone.

A search party was conducted Sunday night by the Wapello County Sheriff but they found no traces. The Wapello County Sheriff’s Office, the Ottumwa Fire Department, the Eldon Fire Department, and the Iowa DNR continue their search. The identity of the missing man is currently being withheld.
