OPD: 9-Year-Old Attacked by Pitbull, Owner Arrested

The Ottumwa Police Department says a child was attacked by a pitbull which resulted in the arrest of an Ottumwa man.

Bradford Allan Henry, 48, has been charged with animals which bite and keeping dangerous animals, both simple misdemeanors.

On Wednesday at 7:03 PM, the department says it received a call regarding a 9-year-old girl that was attacked by a dog at a residence on Chester Avenue. Once police arrived at the scene, it was determined that the dog was a pitbull.

The girl was taken to the hospital for treatment. She reportedly suffered injuries to her face, head, arm, shoulder, and hand from the attack.

Police say the pitbull was euthanized. Its remains were sent for a rabies analysis since the dog wasn’t vaccinated.

Henry admitted to being the dog’s owner, telling police that the animal was a pitbull mix he has had since the dog was a puppy.

Henry was arrested after turning himself in on Thursday. He was taken to the Wapello County Jail and released after posting bond.
