An Illinois man was arrested after police say he drove recklessly and crashed his vehicle in southeast Iowa on Thursday.

28-year-old Fredrick G. Wackenhut of Hampshire, Illinois was charged with reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic control device, and unsafe passing, according to a social media post by the Oskaloosa Police Department.

Law enforcement says it began receiving calls around 1:00 PM concerning a driver in a gray or silver Mustang that was speeding, illegally passing other cars, and running red lights near William Penn University. More calls came in to tell officials that the Mustang crashed into a semi-truck just outside of Eddyville.

Wackenhut escaped on foot after the wreck, according to police, but was later apprehended by a county deputy and a K-9 unit.
