In honor of American Heart Month, Jefferson County Health Center (JCHC) will present a Heart Health & Home Cooking Demo.

Sponsored by the JCHC Auxiliary, this event will be free to all participants on Thursday, February 22nd at Jefferson County Health Center in Conference Room C. The goal of the evening will be to educate participants on the importance of heart health, placing a special emphasis on the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Diet.

The event will feature a live cooking demonstration led by Colette Banda, Registered Dietitian, highlighting a heart-healthy recipe and practical tips to modify favorite recipes. Colette emphasizes, “The DASH Diet is a powerful tool in preventing and managing hypertension. It is about making simple, sustainable changes to your diet, and this event will provide insights into incorporating these changes into your daily life.”

Participants will have the opportunity to taste complimentary samples to discover how delicious heart-healthy eating can be. With the support of Hy-Vee and Pickle Creek Herbs, each participant will be taking home a variety of no salt spices and vinegar samples to help them in their healthy cooking journey. Additionally, Sherri Brumbaugh, Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse will be on hand for free blood pressure checks and to answer clinical questions.

Taking place during American Heart Month, the Heart Health & Home Cooking Demo is a testament to JCHC’s commitment to raising awareness and promoting heart health within our community. The JCHC Auxiliary’s sponsorship plays a crucial role in making this event possible.

Presenter, Colette Banda, expresses her enthusiasm, saying, “I am excited to share valuable insights on heart-healthy living and demonstrate how simple changes in our cooking habits can contribute to overall well-being. Let’s make heart health a priority this February!”
