Gloria Joan Millikin, 82, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, February 9, 2024, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born September 21, 1941, near Ollie, Iowa, the daughter of Ray Karl and Evelyn Naomi Conklin Schwenke. She attended Lancaster Elementary school and went on to graduate from Hedrick High School. On December 11, 1959, she was united in marriage to Gary Millikin in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Following their marriage she worked at Killian’s Clothing in Cedar Rapids. After a few years in Cedar Rapids they moved to the Hedrick area to the Millikin family farm. Together Gloria and Gary raised cattle, pigs, and chickens on their family farm. In addition to helping on the farm and caring for her family and home, Gloria found time to take classes at Indian Hills Community College for Accounting and earned her A.A. degree. In 1982, the couple started Osky Cycle on the south side of Oskaloosa. They owned and operated that business for many years and expanded their services to being a U-haul dealer for many years. Following Gary’s death on November 23, 2004, Gloria continued the U-haul business until her ill health forced her to retire. Gloria gave selflessly of her time and talents, she served as a scout leader for her boys, John and Russell and served as a 4-H leader for he daughter Janice’s 4-H groups. She was active in the Hedrick community volunteering at the Hedrick Athletic Association basketball and football games
where she served countless bags of popcorn. She was a member of the neighborhood club the Benton Livewires for many years. Gloria was always in the kitchen making something, she enjoyed cooking for her family and community events. Everyone knew if Gloria was in the kitchen they needed to “save room” for dessert to enjoy one of her “County” famous brownies.

Her family includes her three children, John (Janessa) Millikin of Hamilton, Iowa, Russell Millikin of Newton, and Janice (Joe) Spitz of Chicago, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jesse Millikin, TJ (Kami) Millikin, Jakob Spitz, and Victoria Spitz; three great grandchildren, Eloise, Calvin, and Clark Millikin.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Gary; her parents; three brothers, Herman, Raymond, Jr. and Charles; and a sister, Gladys Rios.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Molly Goodrich officiating. Cremation will following the funeral ceremony and burial of the urn will be in the Abel Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. A luncheon, and additional fellowship will be held at the Carl Craft Civic Center in Hedrick, Iowa. Family will be present from 11:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. to share many stories and to celebrate the life of Gloria. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family.
