Secretary Pate Announces Iowa Youth Straw Poll Results

DES MOINES – More than 20,000 students are expected to participate in Secretary of State Paul Pate’s Iowa Youth Straw Poll this week, casting their vote for preferred presidential candidate.

As of noon on Friday, January 12, Iowa students from 41 schools had cast their ballots. 

Marianne Williamson has received the most votes of the Democratic presidential candidates, with 38.54% percent of the votes cast, followed by Dean Philips (33.02%) and Joe Biden (29.29%).

Melissa Biondi leads the pack of Libertarian presidential candidates with 11.76% of votes cast, followed by Jon Stewart (6.99%) and Chase Oliver (6.8%).

Donald Trump is the top vote-getter of the Republican presidential candidates with 58.06% of the votes, followed by Nikki Haley (17.76%) and Ron DeSantis (9.52%).

“It is exciting to see so many students participate in this year’s Iowa Youth Straw Poll,” said Secretary Pate. “ This is a great opportunity for students to experience first-hand the caucus and voting experience, and we look forward to seeing these students register to vote and participating in Iowa’s elections process once they are eligible.”
