Allen Ross Mock, 81, of Ottumwa, died at 7:05 p.m. December 30, 2023 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City.
He was born September 6, 1942 in Albia to Charles Albert and Maxine Ross Mock. He married Joyce Michelle Vaughn in 1961 and later divorced. He married Carol Gaye Ortiz April 17, 1971 and she preceded him in death May 23, 2014.
A graduate of Albia High School, Allen served four years in the U.S. Navy. While living in Modesto, CA he delivered for Coors Beer and delivered bread while living in Oklahoma. Moving back to Iowa he worked for Ottumwa Distributing, Lund International and drove a truck for various other companies.
Allen was a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. He loved golfing, playing slow pitch softball and watching sports, especially Iowa Hawkeye football.
Surviving are his four sons, Glen (Kris) Mock of Shawnee, KS, Jeff (Karen) Mock of Oklahoma City, OK, Brent (Marcy) Mock of Eddyville and Brad (Kelly) Mock of St. Charles, MO; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a brother, Tom (Dixie) Mock of Albia; a sister, Pam (Richard) Calhoun of California; and his girlfriend, Sherra Hummer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ron Mock and a sister, Debbie Mathers.
His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday, January 5th at Reece Funeral Home with Chaplain Doug McAntire officiating. Military honors will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Private inurnment will be in Oakview Cemetery in Albia.
The family will be present one hour prior to the service to greet friends.
