Ottumwa, IA– The Ottumwa Legacy Foundation is excited to announce the Legacy Fields Project, an ambitious initiative set to transform the Greater Ottumwa Park Central Addition with the addition of a beautiful new soccer complex. This substantial undertaking, with a total investment of over three million dollars, is funded and coordinated by the Legacy Foundation, and aims to enhance recreational standards, improve safety, and contribute to the overall richness of our local riverfront landscape.

The Legacy Fields project encompasses several key amenities. Most prominent of these, three recalibrated full-size crowned and irrigated natural turf soccer fields. These fields are poised to accommodate a broader range of matches and to host regional tournaments. Other components include a restroom facility for participants and visitors, two open shelters offering an enhanced viewing experience, improved parking with 183 planned spaces, and a large, digitized scoreboard. These components collectively contribute to creating state-of-the-art facilities, designed to improve both performance and enjoyment. The Legacy Fields project supports the diverse needs of participants and spectators while providing a flexible venue for tournaments, clubs, leagues and even new sports that may be introduced in the future, such as lacrosse. The project, which will start this next spring, is planned to take about two years to complete.

The Legacy Fields project is anticipated to significantly benefit the Ottumwa community through economic impact as well as improvement to quality of life. With an estimated 220+ youth participating in soccer leagues and an additional 150+ individuals actively engaged in Ottumwa’s Sunday Soccer League, the project is expected to bring a renewed vibrancy to this highly visible location. “The impact of this project is far reaching,” states Legacy President Kelly Genners. “It addresses a long-standing need for facilities eagerly awaited by individuals of various ages and cultures.”
