As part of its annual Hams for the Holidays campaign, Hy-Vee employees, food pantry volunteers, and local first responders will distribute nearly 500 Hormel® Cure 81® hams in Ottumwa this week.
On Thursday, Dec. 7, Hy-Vee, the Food Bank of Iowa, and the Wapello County Veterans Affairs Commission will give away 300 hams to veterans in need. The event will be held at the Wapello County Emergency Management Agency beginning at 4 p.m. until all hams are distributed. This event is for veterans and their families only.
The following day, the Ottumwa Hy-Vee will host a Hy-Vee Hams for the Holidays event to distribute 170 hams to the public. The event will begin at 2 p.m. and last until 3 p.m. or until the hams are distributed. Now in its sixth year, Hams for the Holidays is a collaborative effort with Hormel Foods to help fight food insecurity in communities served by Hy-Vee stores. This location is one of 10 stops that Hy-Vee is making across its eight-state region delivering 5,000 total hams.
