Jeanette Bork, 85, of Eddyville, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Pella Hospice Comfort House.
Helen Jeanette Bork, daughter of John Henry and Ester Bernice (Brisbois) Koenen, was born January 12, 1938, in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was raised near Storm Lake on her parent’s farm and attended Hayes Consolidated Country School. Following graduation in 1955, she went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator. June 30, 1957, Jeanette was united in marriage to Larry Walter Bork in Storm Lake. Together, they made their home on a farm and farmed near Storm Lake until 1971, when they purchased a farm near Lacona, Iowa, in Warren County. In 1996, they retired from operating the farm and bought a semi-truck (it was purple, and they named it Barney); they both attended Indian Hills Truck Driving School, and both became certified truck drivers. They traveled the country together as a team. In 2003, they sold the truck and retired, and in 2005, they sold their farm in Warren County and moved to the Eddyville area. Jeanette was always a real partner in all the couple’s endeavors; besides raising her three children, she helped her husband with many farm chores and raised chickens. In her free time, Jeanette enjoyed growing flowers, kayaking, country music, and attending Blue Grass Music festivals.
Jeanette’s family includes her husband, Larry of Eddyville; her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Sharon Lynn Bork of Eddyville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kristen and Ron Fridley of Milo, Iowa, and Kendra Bork of Arlington, TX; five grandchildren: Ryan Bork, Regina Foreman, Audra Bales, Alisha (Robert) Thornton, and Jeremy (Tracey) Schwellinger; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jerrald.
As was Jeanette’s wish, her body has been cremated. Her arrangements are entrusted to Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory. Memorial contributions can be made to Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.
